Coach Brylee’s Wrap Up

 - B Grade Women Round 1 Match Summary – Hope Valley vs Ingle Farm

Our first game of the season had a promising start, with the girls leading the game for the first half. But unfortunately, heading into the second half, Ingle Farm came out with more determination to hunt the ball in numbers and put on a lot of pressure when we had possession. With a few goals kicked against us in the last half, Ingle Farm hit the front and were able to hold that lead until the final siren, with the girls going down 29-13. We had a large number of debutants and a very fresh, new group, so the girls were finding their feet as first-time players, as well as gelling as a team. Although there were plenty of positives to take from the game, with a few focus areas to improve on in the weeks to come.

Final Score: Hope Valley 2.1 (13) defeated by Ingle Farm 4.5 (29)

Goal Kickers: Skye Grant-Allen, Gabriella Letief

Best Players: Tiannah Field, Sophie De Vries, Aliyah Pix, Ella Ryde, Amy Bull

 - B Grade Women Round 2 Match Summary – Hope Valley vs West Croydon

Round 2 saw the girls take on West Croydon at home on Anzac Day, where it was an honour to pay our respects to those who served and sacrificed for us. Having a younger, smaller side worked to our advantage this week as we were able to play out the whole 4 quarters and finish with a 45-26 win as reward for effort. The girls’ efforts were impressive to watch as they worked beautifully as a team, using lots of link up handballs, strong hands in contests, plenty of shepherds, voice and work rate to man up their players. Every one played their role and the 3rd quarter saw 3 goals kicked for a nice lead, ultimately securing our first win of the season. Our accuracy in front of goal played a key role in the win, having had one less scoring opportunity than the opposition during the match.

Final Score: Hope Valley 7.3 (45) defeated West Croydon 3.8 (26)

Goal Kickers: Sarah Fry (3), Chloe Rinna (3), Ella Ryde (1)

Best Players: Sarah Fry, Victoria Carter, Isabella LaVista, Ella Ryde, Saskia De Vries

 - B Grade Women Round 3 Match Summary  - Hope Valley vs TTG

It was a tough day out for the girls for their Round 3 match against TTG, going down 90-6. All of our best areas from the previous week were sadly lacking in this hard game against our long-term rivals. However, there were some strong individual performances that hold plenty of promise for the season to come and the encouragement and positivity in the group despite the loss was a testament to the strength and foundation they are building as a team.

Final Score: Hope Valley 1.0 (6) defeated by TTG 12.18 (90)

Goal Kickers: Chloe Rinna

Best Players: Sophie De Vries, Britany Morrison, Amy Bull, Keisha Vreudenburg, Madison Zanker

 - B Grade Women Round 4 Match Summary – Hope Valley vs Seaton

Round 4 saw the girls take on Seaton in a Quintuple header at Hope Valley, a big day for our club. Despite the home ground advantage, Seaton proved to be too good on the day, defeating us 110-1. Seaton were a more mature and experienced side and our girls struggled to keep up with their quick ball movement. Again, we saw some great individual efforts and the team as a whole had an encouraging and positive mindset, but a few of the fundamentals were missing on the day, which you just can’t win games without. We have been continuing to work hard on these areas and see improvement each week.

Final Score: Hope Valley 0.1 (1) defeated by Seaton 15.20 (110)

Goal Kickers: N/A

Best Players: Amy Bull, Sophie De Vries, Victoria Carter, Skye Grant-Allen, Chloe Rinna

It was a privilege to take the field on Anzac Day and pay our respects to those who served and sacrificed for our country. Despite the position we are in on the ladder we are working hard on the track to secure that second scalp. With 3 of our four losses coming from a total of 23 points combined we know we are close to turning the corner for that elusive Win. I have so much pride in the never give up attitude of this group.
